The farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of Boro during the current season amid suitable climatic conditions everywhere in the district.
According to BSS, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said that they set a target for cultivating Boro on 1,29,900 hectares of land which is 1040 hectares higher than last year’s cultivation, with a production target of 565281 metric tons of the crop.
DAE distributed high quality Boro seed to the farmers at fair prices through its sale centers and approved dealers, DAE office sources said.
Farmers cultivated a high breed variety of Boro paddy for getting more production. This year farmers cultivated the variety on 46,780 hectares of land which is 8530 hectares more than the last year.
Besides, they also cultivated high yielding variety of Boro paddy on 82,700 hectares of land and local variety on 420 hectares of land.
Additional Director, Plant Protection Wing, Khamar Bari, Dhaka, Samsul Haque who visited Boro fields in the district on Saturday said we are expecting a bumper production of Boro if the weather remains favourable.
Training officer of DAE Zakia Sultana said farmers will start Boro harvesting of short duration varieties from the end of April this year.
